Governor Wes Moore announced that five organizations, including one in Montgomery County, will receive $100,000 in New Start Grant Program funding to promote reentry programs and entrepreneurship training for Marylanders who are presently or were previously incarcerated.
“Today, Governor Wes Moore announced $100,000 in grant awards to support five organizations in their work to prepare current and formerly incarcerated Marylanders to pursue business ownership and economic self-sufficiency,” according to the news release issued on Wednesday, August 6. Through the New Start Grant Program, which funds entrepreneurship training and reentry programs for Marylanders involved in the judicial system, selected groups will be awarded $20,000 to implement programming.

In order to help returning individuals take significant steps toward establishing a business and a secure future, the groups will support them both during and after their incarceration. Successful implementation, or a plan to implement programming that includes business proposal competition, executive mentorship by business professionals, and entrepreneurship training, was shown by competitive grant applicants. Each program will also incorporate supported services, such as mental health support resources and financial literacy courses, with financing from New Start Grants.
