Together, the Maryland Lottery, casinos, sports betting, and daily fantasy sports brought in $1.589 billion for state programs and services in Fiscal Year 2025, or $4.35 million every day on average.
Of this amount, $696.2 million went toward education initiatives, while $831.3 million came from casino payments, $667.2 million from lottery revenues, and $89.9 million from sports betting and fantasy sports.
According to the press release, during Fiscal Year 2025 (July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025), the Maryland Lottery, along with the state’s casinos, sportsbooks, and daily fantasy sports businesses, contributed $1.589 billion to state programs and services.
The state received $831.3 million from casino gaming, $667.2 million from lottery winnings, and $89.9 million from sports betting and daily fantasy sports. A total of $696.2 million was allocated to education programs in FY2025 from a portion of the profits from casinos, sports betting, and daily fantasy sports. During the fiscal year, the state received an average of $4.35 million every day from the lottery, casinos, sports betting, and daily fantasy sports.
Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin stated, “We prioritize fun and games, but we take seriously our responsibility to responsibly generate state revenue.” While we want to have some fun along the road, we are always thinking about funding important state initiatives.

Conventional Lottery
With $2.633 billion in sales, the lottery enjoyed its fourth-best year in 52 years. For the fourth year in a row, scratch-off ticket sales topped the $1 billion mark at $1.059 billion.
$519.2 million of the $667.2 million in lottery ticket sales proceeds went to the state’s General Fund, which supplies funds for a range of initiatives and services, including public education. The remaining $148 million in lottery profits were distributed among 13 other governmental funds in the state budget.
In FY2025, lottery winners took home $1.673 billion, or almost $4.6 million every day on average. During the fiscal year, players received 1,638 wins worth at least $10,000, including 490 winning tickets that paid out prizes worth at least $50,000 and 33 prizes worth at least $1 million. $195.7 million, or more than $45,000 on average each merchant, was made up of cashing commissions and sales. The Lottery operated 4,279 retail sites around the state as of the end of FY2025.
Gaming at Casinos
The combined income from slot machines and table games at Maryland’s six casinos came to $1.965 billion, the third-highest amount in the state’s 15-year history.
In FY2025, the casinos gave the state $831.3 million, of which $606.2 million went to the Education Trust Fund (ETF), which funds capital improvement projects, public elementary and secondary education, early childhood education, and public school building. Over $6.4 billion in casino gaming revenue has been allocated to the ETF overall since the state’s first casino opened its doors in September 2010.

Responsible gaming programs:
$4.4 million in per-machine and per-table-game assessments paid by casino operators to the Problem Gambling Fund
Fantasy sports betting and competitions
In FY2025, Maryland’s sports betting business generated $88.9 million for the state, up from $60.3 million in FY2024.
All sports betting operators donated 15% of their taxable profits to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which funds public education initiatives, during the first 11 months of FY2025. Starting in June 2025, the rate for mobile sports betting companies was raised to 20% by the state budget. The entire sum was allocated to the Blueprint Fund for that month. Mobile carriers will start contributing 15% of their taxable profits to the Blueprint and 5% to the General Fund in July 2025. The Blueprint continues to receive 15% of the taxable profits from retail sports wagering providers.
Additionally, 15% of the profits from fantasy competition operators—including those running daily fantasy sports—go to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund. These contributions came to $1,049,448 in FY2025.
