Following a 2024 incident involving a cab driver and her son, Luis Davila-Marerro, 42, was convicted in Montgomery County Circuit Court to 35 years in prison for kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery. The sentence will run consecutively to a previous 10-year term for probation violations and burglary.
The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office claims that the incident that led to the 35-year sentence happened on July 6, 2024, at around 9:00 p.m. The defendant, whom she had previously driven multiple times, called a woman who worked for a taxi service catering to Spanish-speaking people. After exchanging contact details, he reached out to her directly this time rather than via the company. They set up a pickup spot in Montgomery Village’s 18000 block of Contour Road after the defendant claimed he needed a ride. Her 12-year-old son was in the vehicle with the victim.
After entering the car, Davila-Marerro started giving the victim driving instructions. The defendant intimidated the victim and her son, demanding their cell phones and any cash they had while they traveled for several hours into Howard County and back to Montgomery Village. Despite the victim having only a few dollars in cash, the defendant moved $480.00 from her account to his own by using a bank app on her phone. He called someone and asked them what he should do about the victim and her son. The victim was terrified for their lives, as was her son. Around 1:00 a.m., the defendant got out of the car in Montgomery Village.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Peter Larson and Caitlin Murphy. Our community’s women have been the focus of this predator’s increasing acts of violence. “We express our gratitude to the judge for imposing a suitable sentence and considering the defendant’s lengthy criminal history,” stated State’s Attorney John McCarthy.
