Community Rallies to Support Ada Villatoro, Beloved Local Restaurateur Battling Stage 4 Breast Cancer

Friends, family, and locals have united to support Ada Villatoro in a show of community solidarity, using a GoFundMe effort to raise almost $8,000 in just two days. Ada is well-known in Silver Spring, Maryland, as the proprietor of El Golfo Restaurant, a renowned neighborhood spot that has long been a meeting spot for community members, artists, musicians, and nonprofits.

In search of a better life for herself and her family, Ada moved to the Washington, DC, area in the middle of the 1980s. She has created a life focused on cuisine, culture, and service as a dedicated mother of two, and via her restaurant and community work, she has impacted the lives of many.

Ada was given the challenging diagnosis of stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in February 2023. She has persevered in supporting her family and being connected with her business in spite of numerous surgeries and continuous cancer treatments.

Ada, like many Americans fighting cancer, must pay for substantial medical bills that her insurance does not fully cover. She and her family have been severely impacted financially by the rising expenses of therapy, surgeries, prescription drugs, and continuing care.

Ada’s community has responded by coming together to offer much-needed financial support, which has helped to lessen some of the burden brought on by her medical expenditures. Supporters’ donations are used only for Ada’s medical bills and other requirements, freeing her up to concentrate on her recovery.

Through this GoFundMe page, anyone who would like to aid Ada or spread the word about her story is urged to do so. Ada and her family are given hope and relief at this trying time by the community’s combined generosity, kindness, and support.
