Maddox Cherry, who is a rising student at Clarksburg High School, just reached a noteworthy aviation milestone. He was one of only 24 students nationwide chosen to attend the prestigious Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Solo Flight Academy, held in Olive Branch, Mississippi, by the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP).
Maddox had extensive training during this exclusive and competitive program, which included ground teaching, simulated exercises, and practical flight training. His perseverance and commitment were rewarded when he passed difficult tests and in-flight assessments to finish the program. Maddox accomplished the incredible feat of flying alone on the last day.
Maddox took part in the customary post-solo celebration, which involves an ice-cold bucket dump to represent his successful flight, in order to honor this noteworthy accomplishment. This educational opportunity is a significant step toward Maddox’s goal of becoming a pilot. The images posted during his trip, which include scenes from his solo flight, show the enthusiasm and commitment of a budding young pilot.(Photo Credit: LWFA and OBAP for some photos.)
