Officer Prevents Suicide Attempt at Parking Garage

On Sunday morning, a Montgomery County Police officer received recognition for acting quickly to assist a person in need. Officers responded to a report of a person threatening to jump from a high-level parking garage at approximately 9:25 a.m. at Wayne and Georgia Avenue.

An MCPD incident alert states that the officer stepped in to stop the individual from hurting themselves. Both the person and the police were sent to a local hospital for treatment after suffering non-life-threatening head injuries.

In order to safely handle high-stress situations and safeguard public safety, MCPD 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos emphasized that officers receive training in crisis communication and de-escalation tactics, including the ICAT (Integrating Communications, Assessment, and Tactics) program.

In response to a person in distress, 3D police were sent to the area of Wayne and Georgia Avenue at 9:25 a.m.
