The laboratory for cardiovascular and interventional radiology will be named in honor of Fern and Laurence Bensignor.
A substantial donation has been given to the hospital’s new cardiovascular treatment lab by a family who received life-saving heart care at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center.Laurence (Larry) and Fern Bensignor are so appreciative of Larry’s outstanding care that they have made a significant immediate commitment in addition to a sizable deferred gift through Larry’s estate.
The funds will help finish its Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (CVIR) laboratory and finance the development of a 150,352 square foot patient tower.Three state-of-the-art treatment rooms will be available in the lab for interventional cardiologists and neurointerventional specialists to treat patients experiencing heart attacks and strokes. The lab will bear the Bensignors’ names in appreciation of their generosity and unwavering dedication.
They have a long-standing relationship with Shady Grove Medical Center. In 2016, Larry had a widowmaker heart attack and was taken by ambulance to the hospital’s emergency room.He survived the potentially fatal incident because of the prompt and skilled care provided by the ShadyGrove medical team and Dr. Rajeev Patel, an interventional cardiologist with Adventist HealthCare Cardiac Associates.
The Bensignors’ experience with a second chance at life ignited a deep desire to support the community financially, as well as through leadership and service. They have turned into loyal patrons of their hospital, making numerous large donations. They also donate their skills and effort. In addition to serving on the Shady Grove Medical Center’s governing board, where he chairs the Philanthropy Committee, Larry was the previous chair of the Shady Grove Medical Center Foundation.
Hearing sirens in your area and knowing they are for you is an odd sensation, says Larry.According to him, every moment I spend with my family—including my adorable 4-year-old grandson—laughing with friends, or enjoying my favorite music is a gift.My life was saved by Dr. Patel and the staff at Shade Grove Medical Center.Fern and I want the best care and equal opportunities for continuing life for other patients who require emergency intervention.
Daniel Cochran, president of Shady Grove Medical Center, says, “We are immensely appreciative of Larry and Fern’s extraordinary generosity.” Their most recent gift is a wonderful example of how thankfulness may be transformed into meaningful action. It will contribute to making sure that every patient who enters our facility has access to top-notch treatment, cutting-edge technology, and the compassion that characterizes our purpose. Our sincere gratitude for their faith in Shady Grove and our collaboration with Adventist HealthCare is reflected in this naming honor.
