Sarah’s Handmade to Open Fourth Montgomery County Location

Chevy Chase will host the fourth store of the well-known Bethesda-born creamery, Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream, in Montgomery County. The Charmery, which closed its doors last month after two years of operation, will be replaced by the newest facility. Five signature Sarah’s Handmade ice cream flights, redeemable at any of the ice cream shop’s current locations, are being given away in celebration of the announcement.

Since its founding, Sarah’s Handmade has grown rapidly to become a local favorite, and this most recent expansion is a key milestone for the business. The Charmery recently closed after a two-year existence, leaving a hole that will be filled by the new Chevy Chase outlet at 8551 Connecticut Avenue.

Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream is a touching story about community, family, and devotion. It all started when Sarah Park, a mother with a sophisticated taste, began creating her own ice cream for her daughter Annie in South Korea in the early 1990s. When Sarah retired in 2018, she resumed her passion after the family moved to Bethesda, Maryland, in 2000. Her unique dishes, which were made with only the best, natural ingredients, soon gained popularity and attracted calls and orders from curious strangers.

When Sarah realized the enormous potential, she turned to her daughter Annie Park, a Harvard graduate with a strong business mentality, for assistance. What began as a short-term endeavor swiftly developed into a full-time endeavor. Sarah’s Handmade Ice Cream quickly grew under Annie’s direction, with each scoop shop specializing in 40 fresh, locally produced varieties that Sarah would be pleased to give her own family.

Sarah’s Handmade aims to provide something for every member of the family, from seasonal creations and old favorites to vegan options and even doggie ice cream. Beyond the delectable sweets, the company has received multiple awards and been featured in major media outlets for its strong commitment to community service, employee mentoring, and growth.

Sarah’s Handmade’s current Montgomery County stores will be joined by the Chevy Chase site at:

14929 Shady Grove Road, Rockville (Fallsgrove Village Center); 10219 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda (Wildwood Shopping Center); and 5241 River Road, Bethesda (Original Location)

Sarah’s Handmade’s presence in Montgomery County is further cemented with this expansion into Chevy Chase. Beyond the boundaries of the county, the business has also confirmed that it will open its first DC facility at 2029 P Street, NW in Dupont Circle.
