The Dough Roller’s story began in 1980, when founder Bill Gibbs envisioned a family-friendly eatery on the front porch of Ocean City’s Breakers Hotel. Recognizing the appeal of a casual yet inviting atmosphere for visitors, he established the first
Dough Roller
, laying the groundwork for what would become an Ocean City institution. The restaurant even briefly had a location right here in
Montgomery County
.
From its humble beginnings, the restaurant quickly became synonymous with hand-tossed pizzas and an impressive array of pancakes, solidifying its reputation as a go-to spot for both breakfast and casual meals at the beach. Over the decades, The Dough Roller has remained a cherished fixture in Ocean City. It has expanded from its original boardwalk location to several others across the town, including year-round establishments on Coastal Highway and a presence in West Ocean City.
“The Dough Roller Express” opened in July 2014 in Rockville’s King Farm community. This was the Ocean City staple’s first location outside of the beach community, run by Gary Gibbs, one of the sons of the original founder. The aim was for it to be a slightly abridged menu from the full Ocean City restaurants, focusing on their popular pizza and some other items. It closed about two years later in 2016.
The business has remained a testament to its founding vision, continuing to be family-owned and operated by Bill Gibbs’ sons, who carry on the tradition of offering quality food in a welcoming, family-oriented environment that has delighted generations of Ocean City visitors and locals alike.
