Siblings Win $490K Multi-Match Jackpot Share in OC; Silver Spring Ticket Still Unclaimed

A group of four siblings who have played Maryland’s Multi-Match together for eight years won half of a $1.8 million jackpot from the June 30 drawing after matching all six numbers with a ticket purchased in Ocean City. The retired nurses and government workers opted for the cash payout of $490,000 (after the prize was split), and plan to use the winnings for travel, a new car, and investments, while the second winning ticket, sold in Silver Spring, remains unclaimed. “A group of siblings joined forces to purchase a jackpot-winning Multi-Match ticket from the June 30 drawing in Ocean City. The annuity was set at $1.8 million, with a $980,000 cash option. A second jackpot-winning ticket was sold for the same drawing in Silver Spring, so the two tickets split the prize.

The winners told Lottery officials they decided to celebrate the birth of a child in the family eight years ago by playing Multi-Match. One of the siblings suggested they start a Lottery pool. So, the four siblings got together and have been playing Multi-Match ever since.

That strategy paid off last month as they matched all six numbers. The sister who is responsible for collecting the money and purchasing the tickets was on vacation at the time, so she bought the tickets in Ocean City. After the drawing took place, she scanned the ticket at the store.

When she scanned it, she saw the “Go to Lottery” message, so she checked on the Lottery app to verify she had a perfect match.

The excitement kicked in as she contacted each sibling.

“Let’s rock and roll,” another sibling said when she got the winning phone call.

The winners are retired nurses and government workers.

The group chose the cash option, which was $490,000 after splitting it with the other winning ticket. Some of the plans include buying a new car, traveling to Europe and investing the prize.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Food Lion at 9936 Stephen Decatur Highway in Worcester County. The Ocean City retailer will receive a $900 bonus for selling the ticket.

The other jackpot-winning ticket was purchased at the Giant store at 13781 Connecticut Avenue in Silver Spring and remains unclaimed.”
