Collision Leaves Tractor Trailer Dangling Off of Bridge on Beltway

Published On:

Significant delays and emergency response activities have been caused by a collision between the I-495 Beltway and I-270 Spur that left a tractor trailer hanging over a bridge after midnight on Thursday morning.

According to Pete Piringer, the Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS), the incident happened on the skyramp/overpass between Greentree Road and Bradley Boulevard.

Transporting chilled mushrooms, the tractor trailer swerved off the road and ended up half hanging over a bridge. The driver was successfully freed from the car by emergency personnel who arrived quickly. Fuel leaked and spilled from the truck’s saddle tanks as a result of the incident, raising more safety and environmental issues.

According to an update from Piringer, the incident happened on the large curve bridge of the skyramp on the I-495 Beltway’s Outer Loop. After the extrication, the driver was assessed by the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Emergency Medical and Integrated Healthcare Services (MCFRS EMIHS) team.

Traffic delays are being caused by the crash, which has shut multiple lanes on the I-270 Spur and the I-495 Beltway.
