On Tuesday, August 5, the Rockville City Police Department (RCPD) has stated that it would participate in neighborhood block parties to celebrate National Night Out with the goal of fostering police partnerships, community spirit, and crime prevention.

According to the City of Rockville, on Tuesday, August 5, the Rockville City Police Department participates in community celebrations with Rockville neighborhoods as part of National Night Out.

The National Association of Town Watch is the sponsor of National Night Out, which is in its 42nd year. It seeks to improve community spirit and community policing relationships, increase support for anti-crime initiatives, and increase understanding of crime and drug prevention. Block celebrations including barbecues, bounce houses, carnival rides, and freebies will be held in various neighborhoods.

To promote his anti-crime and anti-drug message, McGruff the Crime Dog will make appearances at a number of block parties. RCPD officers, the mayor, and the council will also attend a lot of events. As part of the customary front porch vigils, residents are asked to put on outdoor lights to let thieves know that communities are taking action against crime.
