Groundbreaking for Clarksburg Town Center Expected Late This Year or Early Next Year

As Weis Markets gets ready to become the major grocery store, exciting things are happening at the Clarksburg Town Center retail center. Weis’s arrival is expected to significantly increase foot traffic to the retail center, which will be advantageous for any nearby businesses that choose to join.

Weis intends to install petrol pumps in the parking lot in accordance with their business plan for new sites. In contrast to the site plan process, Montgomery County mandates that all gas station projects go through a conditional use zoning procedure. This guarantees that every proposal is examined by an impartial hearing examiner. According to an update from Elm Street Development, the gas pumps for Weis at Clarksburg Town Center were approved in May after being submitted for conditional use review in 2024.

After this approval, the county requires that the site plan be amended to accommodate the gas pumps; the Planning Board is anticipated to review this change this fall. Elm Street Development has submitted applications for building permits for a number of structures inside the Retail Core in order to expedite the process. At the same time, Weis is completing its construction plan in preparation for a building permit application. Depending on permissions, the Retail Core area is expected to begin construction later this year or early next year.

In the meantime, people who are keen to check out a new Weis store can stop by the most recent one, which opened on Thursday, June 19th, in Frederick’s Lake Linganore district. As the project progresses, Elm Street Development will keep the homeowners association informed.
