As part of a ramp resurfacing project, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will start closing and detouring two ramps on I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Prince George’s County on July 6. From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays, work will be done overnight. Weather allowing, all work should be finished by the end of July.
The following ramps on I-95/I-495 will need to have their ramps closed and detoured as part of the paving project:
- Southbound MD 202 ramp to northbound I-95/I-495: Drivers will continue onto MD 202 (Landover Road) southbound, make a right turn onto MD 214 (Central Avenue), followed by another right-hand turn onto the on-ramp to I-95/I-495 northbound.
- Southbound I-95/I-495 ramp to southbound MD 202: Drivers will continue onto I-95/I-495 southbound and take exit 15B onto westbound MD 214 (Central Avenue). Drivers will then take the right-hand on-ramp to northbound MD 202 (Landover Road).
Before construction begins, electronic message signs will be put up to alert drivers to the state of the roads. To safely direct drivers through the work zone, Fallston-based Allan Meyers, a contractor for the State Highway Administration, will employ signs, barrels, cones, and electronic message boards.
The State Highway Administration puts a lot of effort into ensuring that both our staff and our clients may travel safely through work zones. Drivers must remain vigilant, concentrate on the road, and keep an eye out for changes in traffic patterns and lower speed restrictions. During the projects, motorcycle riders are advised to be mindful of uneven pavement conditions.
