Following General Assembly passage during the 2025 legislative session, Maryland’s adult-use cannabis and cannabis product sales tax was raised from 9% to 12% as of today, Tuesday, July 1.
The extra 3% of the 12% tax will go to the general revenue of the state. According to Maryland law, the Comptroller of Maryland is in charge of collecting sales and use tax money from adult-use cannabis retail sales throughout the state.
In a ballot referendum on November 8, 2022, Maryland voters authorized the legalization of cannabis for recreational use by adults 21 years of age and older. On July 1, 2023, sales for adult use became legal.
Based on factors including service, selection, pricing, rewards, and parking, readers of The Montgonion, a local satirical publication that blends humor with actual community feedback, just named Peake ReLeafin Rockville the best dispensary in Montgomery County for 2025. Just before the statewide tax hike went into effect, the survey, which received over 2,500 votes, emphasized the advantages of nearby dispensaries.
