Maryland Café Draws Block-Long Lines Nearly Six Months After Viral Crab Dip Bagel Debut

Published On:

Customers have been waiting in line for the Crab Dip Bagel at Cafe Dear Leon (2929 O Donnell St.) in Baltimore for almost six months. They endured the bitter cold in the winter and the scorching summer heat to try this Maryland viral favorite.

With its Cajun butter, Old Bay seasoning, corn, cheddar cheese, and lump crab meat, the crab dip bagel provides a genuine taste of Maryland in every bite of breakfast (or lunch). Since February, Caf Dear Leon has seen a surge of enthusiastic customers thanks to a clip posted on Instagram by @giovannaposceon that has received over a million views. Customers continue to line up down the block for a sample of the bagel, which is on the July menu, indicating that its popularity has made it a permanent fixture at the bakery.

In February, per Cafe Dear Leon:

Greetings, Baltimore and beyond!

The love and support you have given us over the past several weeks for our Crab Dip Bagel is beyond words!

The CDB will remain on the menu till further notice since we heard you clearly! (Or until SZA shows up to give it a shot 09).

Again, thank you for being the greatest. Every day, we are sustained by your love and support.

The hours of Caf Dear Leon have been adjusted, and it is now open Tuesday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Their rotating menu currently changes by the house, but they still have the crab dip bagel. Each item is prepared in tiny batches at a specific time of day. You have the best chance of receiving what you want if you arrive at the specified baking time, the bakery posted on social media.
