Attendees will be awed by Rockville’s annual Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 4, 2025, at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park in King Farm. The park, which is well-known for its great observer viewing and easy parking, will be transformed into a joyous space where live music, neighborhood greetings, and an amazing 20-minute fireworks show come together to celebrate the Fourth of July in style.
Vertigo Red’s live music performance at 7 p.m. kicks off the evening’s events, establishing a lively and patriotic atmosphere. The Mayor and Council will welcome the gathering and instill a sense of civic pride and camaraderie at 8:45 p.m. After a powerful performance of the National Anthem at 8:55 p.m., Vertigo Red will perform more music from 9 to 9:13 p.m. At 9:15 p.m., a spectacular fireworks show lights up the sky over Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, capping out the evening.
There will be plenty of free parking for attendees in lots on Piccard Drive, Shady Grove Road, and Gaither Road. Visitors are advised to take Route 355, Gude Drive, and Shady Grove Road for the easiest access. Instead of depending only on GPS directions, follow the event signage once you’re close to the location. For cars with a valid placard or license plate, accessible parking is available at 2102 Gaither Road on a first-come, first-served basis. Access is available via Shady Grove and Gaither Roads.
There will be food and drink vendors to suit all tastes. Treat yourself to treats like Frosty Softy’s ice cream and smoothies, cool off with Hawaiian shave ice from Clayboys Shave Ice, or savor Caribbean tastes from Althea’s Almost Famous. There is something for everyone, including savory selections from Pop-up Poutine, ethnic cuisines from Rice Around the World, kettle corn from Too Sweet, carnival-style snacks from The Hotdog Hideout, and a range of tacos, nachos, quesadillas, mulitas, and burritos from Trippy Tacos.
Although chairs and blankets are not permitted within 100 feet of the stage to preserve viewing angles, attendees are asked to bring beach chairs or blankets for the best possible experience as they unwind and enjoy the celebrations. The event promises to go forward rain or shine, and outside food is welcome. Any weather-related cancellations will be announced on the event webpage and the City of Rockville’s Facebook page.
Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park is a smoke-and vape-free area in accordance with local regulations and safety requirements. Visitors should be aware that tents, barbecues, open flames, outside alcohol, and wheeled recreational items are prohibited, and pets—aside from service animals—are discouraged. In order to provide a secure and entertaining atmosphere for everyone, the park also forbids firearms, illicit substances, explosives, glass containers, drones, laser pointers, and projectiles like footballs or frisbees.
Please be aware that from 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 3 to noon on Saturday, July 5, a number of park sections, including the dog park, football field, parking lots, and numerous sports courts, will be closed. These closures, which may vary, are intended to make event preparations easier and to protect the safety of the crowd.
