According to a local ordinance that links yearly wage increases to inflation, Montgomery County’s minimum wage will rise on July 1, 2025. Employers of all sizes in the county are impacted by this shift.
The following are the new minimum wage rates effective July 1st:
$17.65 per hour for large firms with 51 or more workers$16.00 per hour for mid-sized enterprises with 11–50 workers$15.50 per hour for small businesses with 10 or fewer workers
The regional Consumer Price Index for the Washington, D.C.-Arlington-Alexandria area increased by 2.9% this year, which is marginally higher than the 2.8% increase from the previous year. The County’s minimum wage law, which was enacted in 2017 and was supported by Marc Elrich, a former council member who is currently the county executive, gradually incorporates changes based on the size of businesses while tying future increases to inflation. The minimum wage, as set forth in Sections 27–68 of the County Code, is revised every year using the Consumer Price Index and is effective on July 1.
The 50-cent rise equates to around $20 more per week, or more than $1,000 yearly, for those who put in 40 hours a week. Please visit the Montgomery County website to learn more about the minimum wage in Montgomery County.
