Following a previous $1.3 million settlement with Royal Caribbean, Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced a deal forcing Capital Jazz to reimburse customers for approximately $60,000 for canceled SuperCruises in 2021 and 2022.
According to the press release that was sent out on Thursday, June 26: Today, Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced a settlement between his Consumer Protection Division and Capital Jazz, a local promoter of music-themed events, including the yearly Jazz SuperCruises, based in Maryland. The epidemic led Capital Jazz to postpone its SuperCruises in 2021 and 2022.
The business must return about $60,000 in fees it owed to customers that had not been reimbursed before as part of the deal with Capital Jazz and its owner, Clifford Hunte. More than $1.3 million was given back to customers by Royal Caribbean, the cruise line operator on which the SuperCruises were planned, in a different settlement reached in March 2024.
Attorney General Brown stated that even in unforeseen and exceptional situations, such as a worldwide pandemic, Marylanders should be entitled to a refund when a company does not provide the goods and services they purchased. Customers who trusted Capital Jazz with their hard-earned money for unfulfilled vacations will finally get the complete returns they are entitled to thanks to this settlement.
As part of this settlement, Capital Jazz has committed to reimburse customers for costs they paid at the time of purchase for their cruise tickets, which were not covered by the company’s previous reimbursements. In order to help guarantee that customers who bought cruise tickets will get their money back quickly in the event of a mass cancellation in the future, Capital Jazz has also agreed to get cancellation insurance.
Furthermore, Capital Jazz has committed to paying $50,000 to the Attorney General’s Office; if the business violates the settlement, that sum will rise to $100,000.
