Worker Stabbed with Watermelon Knife at Maryland Sheetz Construction Site; Silver Spring Man Charged

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Silver Spring man was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree assault after he reportedly stabbed a coworker at a Charlotte Hall, Maryland, job site.

Jose Wilbert Herrera-Chavez, 36, was arrested for reportedly using a watermelon-cutting knife to stab a coworker at the Sheetz construction site, according to Southern Maryland News Net. Prior to the event, Herrera-Chavez told authorities that he had been bullied by his coworkers on a regular basis. The victim was transported to a medical facility after suffering an abdominal wound. It was decided to hold Herrera-Chavez without bond.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at about 4:55 p.m., deputies from the office arrived at a Charlotte Hall medical facility in response to a report of a victim who had been stabbed. The victim informed deputies that a coworker had stabbed him at a Charlotte Hall construction site. Deputies identified the suspect as Silver Spring resident Jose Wilbert Herrera-Chavez, 36, after conducting an on-scene investigation. Herrera-Chavez was found at the construction site, arrested without incident, and charged with assault in the first and second degrees.
