Eager Pizza Lovers Line Up in 100° Weather For Pizza Pop Up

Published On:

Despite the intense heat, with temperatures approaching 100 degrees, over 40 people lined up outside Inferno Pizzeria Napoletana in Gaithersburg on Tuesday afternoon for a special Roman pizza pop-up (see the video below).

For those who don’t know, Chef Tony Conte spent nine years at DC’s Oval Room before opening Inferno in October 2015. Although pizza is Inferno’s specialty, patrons will tell you that the appetizers are equally delicious.

Wednesday through Saturday, from 5 to 9 p.m., or until the dough runs out, is when the restaurant is open. Inferno strongly advises lining up before the restaurant opens if you’re trying to snag a seat because the dough occasionally runs out early. Customers started to line up at the pop-up today at around 4:30 in order to brave the heat and try Conte’s Thin Roman pizza. Crispy. Roman.

Those that lined up to sample the pizza included our very own Mr. MoCo. He revealed We formed a line along the building’s shaded side. Although hot, it wasn’t too horrible. It was a great early-week treat because Inferno isn’t typically open on Tuesdays and the pizza itself was excellent. Inferno was also placed #22 in 2024’s 50 Top Pizzalist, an independent online reference that rates pizzerias based on anonymous inspections where the bill is paid in full. The site is located in Paestum, Italy, not far from Naples.
