Classic Bakery’s Third Location Will Open Friday, June 27th

We revealed back in May 2024 that Classic Bakery would be launching its third shop altogether, following Gaithersburg and Tyson’s Corner, at 18195 Village Center Dr. in Olney. On Wednesday, they announced on social media that the new bakery will open on Friday, June 27.

The area that Cold Stone once occupied before moving into the shopping complex is now filled by the new Classic Bakery establishment. The bakery recently posted the following update:

A new chapter begins on Friday. We’re opening our third site after 35 years, and this one feels particularly special. We are very excited to share our love, family recipes, and a small part of our hearts with you, Olney. We’ll see you shortly. The soft opening starts tomorrow.

At the age of 17, Grandpa Souren in Tehran, Iran, discovered his love for baking in 1947, marking the beginning of the Classic Bakery tradition more than fifty years ago. In order to concentrate on his tiny bakery, he quit his work as a machine technician. His oldest son, Rubic, started working at the family bakery at the age of seven, learning every facet of the operation, from manually mixing batches to mopping floors.

Rubic Movsessian and his grandpa established Classic Bakery in Gaithersburg in 1991 after coming to the United States. It was located in the commercial complex that was formerly Hechinger’s and is now Bruster’s Ice Cream. The bakery, which made baked items from scratch with only the best, freshest ingredients, immediately gained a reputation for its dedication to family customs and outstanding customer service.

The third generation of the Movsessian family to operate the company is currently represented by Rubic Movsessian and his son Areen. Due to high demand, the bakery has added sandwiches, imported coffee, and homemade gelato to its menu, which now also includes its famous cookies, pastries, baked goods, and personalized cakes. In order to better service its constantly expanding customers, the original 3,000-square-foot business in Gaithersburg relocated to a state-of-the-art, 10,000-square-foot facility on Gaither Road, and a second branch opened a few years ago in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia.

When Classic Bakery was founded in 1991, Grandpa Souren and Rubic pioneered the hands-on technique, which Areen continues to embrace. Their cherished recipes and exacting standards continue to define the bakery’s character, guaranteeing that each generation wins over local customers with a winning combination of quality and tradition.
