When Royal Farms launched its first MoCo facility in Gaithersburg in 2022, it made its debut in Montgomery County. The convenience store, which is well-known for its fried chicken, is currently moving forward with its planned Silver Spring facility.
According to applications submitted to the county’s Department of Permitting Services, Royal Farms is slated to be built on the Sunoco gas station site at 9475 Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring, as we reported last year. A permit was granted in October to start development at the future site. Both the convenience store’s external frame and the gas pump cover are now in place.
This will be the first of Montgomery County’s three major convenience stores—Wawa, Sheetz, and Royal Farms—to open outside of Gaithersburg. Additionally, Royal Farms will soon open outlets in Frederick County at 5831 Buckeystown Pike and 6730 English Muffin Way. The Silver Spring site does not currently have an opening date or schedule.
The most well-known products from Royal Farms are their hand-cut Western fries and their renowned fried chicken. They have a sizable fan base, especially in the Mid-Atlantic regions where they mostly do business, and magazines like Food & Wine frequently give their fried chicken great reviews. Their fried chicken is what really makes them stand out and is what many customers explicitly seek out, even though they also provide petrol, other convenience store goods, and a variety of fresh food alternatives like sandwiches, breakfast items, and coffee.
