As the project enters its fourth week, members of the Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCPD) Summer Traffic Task Force, in collaboration with partner agencies, are focusing all of their time and energy this summer on identifying alcohol-related violations.
Through the end of July, the Summer Traffic Task Force is a concerted enforcement effort. It targets periods like prom season, graduation ceremonies, and summer vacations that have historically been linked to an increase in drunk driving.
Officers made 96 traffic stops between June 15 and June 21 and arrested 11 people for driving under the influence (DUI). In addition, they issued one equipment repair order, 136 warnings, and 125 citations.
Officers have performed 454 traffic stops since the program’s launch on May 21, 2025, leading to 60 DUI arrests, 551 penalties, and 646 warnings.
The Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Maryland State Police (SPIDRE Team and Rockville Barrack), and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are among the participating agencies.
