Vibrant New Murals Signal Transformation of ‘The Square’ in Rockville

One of Rockville’s most recognizable public areas reached a major milestone last month when it started a journey of renewal and change. Previously called Rockville Town Square, the space has been transformed into The Square, a thriving cultural center and welcoming community meeting spot.

Viva Creative brought this makeover to life by introducing a number of expansive murals that give the rebranding initiative a vibrant visual element. These works, which were made by gifted local artists, have elevated The Square’s aesthetic appeal and cultural relevance by transforming it into a permanent outdoor gallery. “This reintroduction of The Square signals a long-term investment in public art, placemaking, and community engagement at the heart of the city,” said Morguard, the space’s governing entity.

Morguard goes on to say, “The new murals at The Square, which feature local flora, fauna, and pollinators as symbols of movement, connection, and life, reflect Rockville’s vibrant natural and cultural identity.” People infuse The Square with vitality through dining, art, and communal events, just like these pollinators do.

The Square is embarking on an exciting new phase with these murals. To keep The Square lively, interesting, and always changing, plans are already in place to implement interactive art, seasonal programming, and community-driven events. The Square hopes to establish itself as a hub for creative expression and community engagement in Rockville by encouraging an atmosphere of innovation and cooperation.
