Alongside authorities, Governor Wes Moore celebrated the opening of Walmart’s new centralized prescription processing facility in Frederick. This facility will assist 700 Walmart stores in 16 states and Washington, D.C., and employ more than 170 people.
Governor Wes Moore today celebrated the opening of Walmart’s newest centralized prescription processing facility in Frederick, according to the news release that was distributed on Friday, June 20. The 102,000-square-foot facility, which is the largest in the company’s central fill network, is situated at 4910 Executive Court. It can support 700 stores in 16 states and Washington, D.C., and fill up to 100,000 prescriptions every day.
In order to create jobs and meet the daily needs of Marylanders, we are forming solid partnerships together, Governor Moore stated. This new facility is the next step in our efforts to prioritize access to opportunity and health care while creating routes to employment, income, and wealth.
Using cutting-edge robots and dynamic weighing technologies, the new facility, which is at the heart of Walmart’s Eastern regional network, will completely automate the prescription workflow. With an emphasis on refilling maintenance prescriptions for chronic illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure, the procedure manages everything from pill counting and labeling to capping and sorting. Local pharmacies will continue to fill prescriptions for urgent requirements, such as medications for illnesses.
Kevin Host, senior vice president of pharmacy at Walmart, stated that this facility marks the next phase of our customer care strategy. Our pharmacists can spend more time in front of patients providing knowledgeable advice, fostering trust, and producing better health outcomes if they are more efficient behind the scenes.
For the facility, more than 170 employees have been hired, including technicians, pharmacists, security guards, and human resources staff.
According to Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr., “Walmart’s new prescription processing facility combines advanced technology with a new strategy to help pharmacists deliver healthcare.” Maryland is known for its innovative spirit. This is fantastic news for patient care, Walmart, and Frederick County, Maryland, as well as the broader region.
Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater expressed her excitement at the arrival of Walmart’s largest pharmacy central fill facility in Frederick County. The fact that our Workforce Services team was able to help with hiring for the 170 new jobs the facility produced makes me happy. This cutting-edge facility is a major investment in Frederick’s expanding biopharma sector and further establishes our area as a center for excellence and innovation.
