“A Baltimore County grandfather is celebrating a $1 million win after matching all five white balls in the June 4

drawing, just missing the Power Ball number to win the jackpot. Earlier that day, the winner proclaimed to his daughter that he was going to win.

Last week, he was out and about with his daughter when they stopped at the Soda Pop Shop in Catonsville to play his Lottery games. In addition to a few scratch-offs, the jackpot chaser purchased two Powerball Quick Pick tickets for that night’s drawing. When he got back in the car, he showed his daughter the two Powerball tickets and told her, “One of these is a winner”.

The winner’s daughter smiled and later dropped him off home. Little did they know the Catonsville player predicted his big win. The retiree settled in for the evening without checking his tickets. The next morning, he scanned his tickets and revealed the $1 million win.

“The screen lit up, but I couldn’t read what it said,” he said. “But, I could see a bunch of zeroes.”

He then put some light on the screen so he could see clearly. The message shown was congratulating him on a $1 million win. He immediately called his children.

“I asked how he was feeling and he replied, ‘I feel like a million bucks’,” said the winner’s daughter who accompanied him to claim the prize on June 11. “It didn’t sink in what he meant until later that day.”

“I called him back and he was so nonchalant about it,” the daughter continued. “You would think he only won a dollar.”

When visiting Lottery headquarters, the winner said he plans to share some of his prize with his children.

“With the rest, I’ll spend some and maybe save some,” he smiled.

Also celebrating the win is Soda Pop Shop at 1026 Ingleside Avenue in Catonsville. The Lottery retailer will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the $1 million second-tier Powerball winning ticket.
