With summer just over a week away, the Takoma Park Police Department advises parents and guardians to “take the picture.” In this context, that means capturing an image of your child before attending any large events, ensuring there’s a clear record of their appearance and what they’re wearing on that day.
Photographs are one of the most important tools for identifying a missing person. Takoma Park Police sent out the following:
“Sometimes we attend large events during the summer months. Before taking children to these events, take a second, pull out your cell phone and take individual pictures of each child. That way, if the unthinkable happens and a child gets lost, you have a picture of how they are dressed and what they look like that day.
The photo can also be immediately sent to police to aid in locating the child. Seconds can be precious in this scenario. So, take a second, make it a habit and take the picture.”
