The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is investigating a fatal collision in which 85-year-old Joel Allen Katz of Silver Spring was struck by an SUV while riding his bicycle on Bramblewood Drive on June 1, 2025, and later died from his injuries.
According to MCPD, “At approximately 4 p.m., officers from the 4th District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the location for the report of a collision involving a bicyclist.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the bicyclist, later identified as 85-year-old, Joel Allen Katz of Silver Spring, was riding in the 15000 block of Bramblewood Drive, when he was struck by a driver of a blue 2015 Mercedes-Benz SUV backing out of a driveway. Katz was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Katz died at the hospital, as a result of his injuries. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact CRU detectives at (240) 773-6620.”
