Using data from the U.S. Department of Education, Niche has published its 2025 Best Public Middle Schools rankings, which are based on a thorough examination of important statistics and millions of student and parent ratings. Maryland’s school districts are comprised of 24 local education systems. These consist of one for Baltimore City and one for each of the 23 counties in the state.
Niche lists a number of ranking categories, such as teacher quality, public school district ratings, graduation rates, college preparation, and state test results. In order to reflect a general de-emphasis on test results in the college admissions process, SAT/ACT scores have been eliminated from this year’s rankings.Learn more about the methodology used to determine this ranking.
